WASHINGTON (AP) — The top man at the Federal Communications Commission is trying to make Internet service providers work the way that water, phone and other utilities work.
In an op-ed piece for Wired magazine, FCC chair Tom Wheeler says the commission is looking to roll out rules that would bar ISPs from slowing down or speeding up Web traffic.
The rules would apply to all ISPs — including those that sell wireless connections.
Companies that provide online services would be treated like other firms that fall under Title II of the 1934 Communications Act. The FCC will vote Feb. 26 on his “Net Neutrality” proposal.
