CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Clarksvillenow.com) Close to 100 people came together at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Clarksville Friday for an Interfaith Memorial Vigil to remember the victims of the Orlando, FL. tragedy. Other local churches along with members of the community were also invited to attend the service.
There were readings and singing, and each of the 49 victim’s names were read as well as the name of the shooter. Then the church bell tolled 50 times, one for each of those who died. After the service, members of the clergy made themselves available for one-on-one healing prayer and words of comfort.
Reverend Meghan Holland, Rector, of Trinity Episcopal Church spoke about why everyone was gathered at the church. “We are here tonight because we are grieving as a community. Something horrible has happened, this convergence of horrible things actually has happened,” said Holland.
Holland added that’s it’s important to have time and space to bring our grief to God or to a higher power and to ask God to take this grief, our mourning, our despair and our tears and transform it into something that might make a difference in the world.
As people entered for the vigil, they were invited to light one of 50 candles placed near the front of the church, again, one for each life lost in Orlando, Florida.
