CLARKSVILLE, TN − Immaculate Conception School celebrated a powerful display of student talent and creativity at its Second Annual Invention Convention and Science Fair on May 14, where students in grades 5–8 showcased original inventions and scientific research in a dynamic, hands-on learning experience.

Grades 5–6 participated in the Invention Convention, a “Shark Tank”-style event that challenged students to solve real-world problems through innovation. Participants designed products, built prototypes, created logos, wrote persuasive business letters, and delivered marketing presentations to a panel of volunteers and judges.

This year’s Invention Convention winners included:

  • Most Creative Invention: Katarina Buchanan (Grade 6) – Cryowave (Instant Freezer)
  • Most Impactful Invention: Aidan Calcese (Grade 6) – Hope Line (Software for Sharing World Research and Cure for HIV/AIDS)
  • Most Innovative Invention: Saba Kinfe (Grade 5) – Blearing (Multi-Functional Jewelry)
  • Most Imaginative Invention: Joshua Lopez (Grade 6) – Wandering Future (Cane for the Blind and Disabled)
  • Best Market Potential: Jacob Alvarado (Grade 6) – M.I.S.T. (Medical Mist for Sicknesses)

Meanwhile, grades 7–8 participated in the Science Fair, where students used the scientific method to investigate real-world questions through original experiments and research projects. From physics and chemistry to biology and environmental science, students demonstrated academic depth and scientific curiosity.

Science Fair award recipients included:

  • Best Experimental Design: Jayden Erb (Grade 7) “Potato Power” and Kennedy Daniels (7) “Heat Damage on Hair”
  • Outstanding Data Analysis: Alex Erb (8) – “Are Fingerprint Patterns Inherited?”
  • Most Original Research Topic: Dulce Gonzalez (Grade 7) – “The Nose Knows: Investigating the Link Between Smell and Memory”
  • Best Presentation and Communication: Charley Cardwell (Grade 7) – “The Impact of Music Genre on Plant Growth Rates” and Dimas Sanchez (Grade 7) – “Ways to Purify Water”
  • Scientific Achievement Award: Nathan Kent (Grade 7) – “Turbocharger vs Supercharger on Truck; 4WD & 2WD”
  • Mrs. Caroline DeLess, Immaculate Conception School Principal and Middle School Science Teacher at ICS, praised the students’ efforts: “This event allows students to see the impact of their ideas and to grow as innovators and communicators. We are so proud of the way they embraced the challenge with excitement and purpose.” Gabriella Lorenzo, ICS STREAM Teacher, said “Every brilliant experiment is like a great work of art! It all starts with imagination.”

The Invention Convention and Science Fair continues to reflect Immaculate Conception School’s mission to blend academic excellence with faith, creativity, and leadership. Through cross-curricular integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Language Arts, and public speaking, ICS prepares students to become thinkers and leaders for a brighter future.
