NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A new, revolutionized drive-in movie theater could be coming to Nashville.

The project, called August Moon, would allow movie-goers to enter a dome and sit in classic cars to watch movies on a big screen.

The theater would be completely indoors but would create an environment that would feel like being outside on a pleasant summer night.

Movie-goers would not bring their own cars in, but would have the chance to sit in vintage 1960s cars while enjoying the show.

Michael Counts is the creator of the project. He told Ryan and Gretchen of Q108 that he wants to use state-of-the-art technology to create an immersive experience that replicates the perfect summer night in 1965.

“I love actual drive-ins and grew up watching them, but this is an attraction that allows you to watch a movie from a movie set,” Counts said.

He said no matter what time of day you visit the domed theater, it’s evening. He hopes to add elements like fireflies and the sense of dusk.

Counts and his team have done a lot of research on the drive-in era and will use that to make it as realistic as possible.

“It’s about being transported to that perfect summer night, like a fantastical theme park.”

Counts said he’s had a positive response from the community and local government.

Developers plan to put August Moon along Interstate 24 near James Robertson Parkway and have it open by the summer of 2018.
