CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The lawn of the historic Montgomery County Courthouse in downtown Clarksville was filled Saturday as close to 150 people turned out for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The event this year was hosted by two local historical organizations, the Capt. Willian Edmiston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR, and the Valentine Sevier Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, SAR.

The reading featured a musket volley, firing of the cannon, the pledge of allegiance, and singing of the national anthem  The event began in 2013 and has been held each year except when it was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
