CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The gymnasium at Salem United Methodist Church, 2269 Seven Mile Ferry Road was filled Saturday, August 24 with supporters of a very special event, I Scream for FUEL-Ice Cream Freeze-Off.
Dozens of people brought their homemade ice cream and hundreds made donations to sample the many flavors of the ice cream treats. According to Carol Ussery, who works closely with the FUEL and is the founder of the event, over $4,300 was raised for the program.
FUEL is a Clarksville-Montgomery County based organization that provides food for children in need. Area churches gather donations to put together healthy food FUEL bags which are given to children in school. Many children rely on breakfast and lunch at school and the donated food helps to supplement them over the weekend.
Each year at the event a contest is held to determine the top three ice cream flavors and also a people’s choice award. Judges for the contest were Beverly Bridges, Richard Stevens, Mark Weakley and Neisha Wolfe who sampled the ice cream before making their decision.
1st place went to Brenda Corlew and her Rich German Chocolate ice cream, 2nd place was Lane Tankersley with his Peaches & Keen and third place was Pat Miller, who also took the peoples choice award for her peanut butter ice cream. Snowbird was also at the event and many people had their photos made with the WSMV star.
