CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are investigating a two vehicle, injury-collision that occurred around the 93 mile marker on Tuesday, November 24 at 5:35 p.m.
A news release states that Herman J. Simmons, 49, was operating a 2005 Toyota Highlander traveling eastbound on Interstate 24 When a 2009 Nissan Versa, driven by James Baba, 55, was merging into the right lane and made contact with the Toyota Highlander.
Simmons, the lone occupant, left the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree.
Baba, along with his passengers, Katherine Baba, 49, and Margaret Baba, 24, went into the median where the vehicle struck a cable barrier and then overturned onto its top.
All occupants were transported to Gateway Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
A three-vehicle, injury-collision later occurred on Interstate 24 at 7:24 p.m. as a result of congested traffic from the previous crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Austin McAdams, 17, Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Interstate 24. Jerald Robbins, 61, Monett, MO, was operating a 2007 Honda Accord eastbound on Interstate 24. Dennis Easter, 51, Gallatin, TN, was operating a 2016 Ford Escape eastbound on Interstate 24.
McAdams was approaching congested traffic that had slowed on eastbound Interstate 24. He said his vehicle was struck from the rear which caused him to accelerate and lose control. The front of his car then struck the rear of Robbins’ car, which moved forward striking the rear of Easter’s vehicle.
McAdams was transported via ambulance to Gateway Medical Center for treatment. Robbins, his passenger Linda Robbins, 62, Monett, MO, Easter and his passenger Susan Easter, 51, Gallatin, TN did not require medical attention.
All occupants in all vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
