CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Day two of the Timothy “True” Hutcherson murder trial was marked by testimony, expert statements, and the search for a material witness.

At approximately 11 a.m. this morning, the Clarksville Police Department asked for the public’s assistance in locating Jayan Chavez Forrest. He is being sought as a material witness for the state in the Hutcherson case.

As of 4 p.m., the court confirmed the witness has yet to be located. Forrest is possibly driving a blue 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, according to police spokesman Detective Michael Patterson.

Hutcherson is being tried for the 2017 shooting death of 21-year-old Devonte Wilkerson, and two counts of attempted murder for opening fire on an apartment on Beech Street.

Testimony about the shooting

Building on Monday’s opening statements, the main question to the jury is not whether Hutcherson committed the shooting, but whether he knew that the shots would kill and injure, because he shot through a door.

The state presented evidence from the shooting in Judge William Goodman’s courtroom. The state’s expert witnesses included a TBI ballistics expert and a Nashville medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Wilkerson’s body.

The state also called on a juvenile witness to testify. The girl, who is now 17, was shot multiple times in the leg during the incident in 2017, and was only 14 at the time.

Most of her responses were short, but when prosecutor Willoughby asked her how the incident affected her, she said, “I can’t walk well in a distance, I can’t run, I can’t participate in a lot things I used to.”

The girl, who is not being named because of her age, said that the day after the shooting, she underwent surgery to have a metal rod placed in her leg. The rod runs from her hip to her knee.

Willoughby asked how the incident affected her mentally.

“Very much. I have PTSD, I have anxieties. Just being here speaking today is very, very hard,” the girl said.

She also stated that she could not identify who shot her.

The jury also heard testimonies from eyewitnesses Daisha Gross and Antoinette Bafford, who were also at the party. Both women said no one else in attendance had a gun aside from Hutcherson, and once they’d both seen him with a gun outside of the apartment, they took off running towards the back of the apartment seeking cover.
