CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – There were long lines and a light rain, but that was fine because there were also hundreds of happy people on Wednesday at Operation Honor, assisting active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families.

Close to 40 volunteers handed out food, dry goods, toiletries, personal care items and toys for children to more than 717 military and veteran families during the drive-thru event.

One of the organizers, Joe Maynard, said this time of year many military families “need a little help, just a little help with some food and other supplies,” Maynard said. Another event is being planned for later in the year.

The Maynard family, Joe and Cathi, and LifePoint Church were the presenting sponsors for the event, with ECHO Power Engineering and F&M Bank as contributing sponsors. Other supporting sponsors included Feed the Children, Tyson, and  radio stations Beaver 100.3 and Q108.

Many of the volunteers were from partnering agencies, which included YAIPak Outreach, Operation Stand Down Tennessee, Montgomery County Veterans Coalition, Soldiers and Families Embraced, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region, Toys for Tots, and AUSA Fort Campbell.
