CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The weather was beautiful for the annual Day of Play for hundreds of children and families to get out and share some fun at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

The Mid Cumberland Child Care Resource and Referral Family Support Program hosted the event with their theme of “Play is the Work of Children.” More than 1,700 people, of course most of them children, enjoyed educational fun and games.

Program Coordinator Ellen McCollum said around 25 groups and 50 volunteers helped make sure the fun didn’t stop.

“The Day of Play event is an opportunity for parents to understand how play is the work of children, and how play is so important to children’s development,” McCollum said.

It was the fifth year for the Day of Play, which was not held in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic. This year, most of the event was held outside to allow those attending to feel safer.
