CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Hundreds of military families lined the blocks of downtown Clarksville on Saturday morning for the Turkeys for Troops giveaway, some arriving as early as 5:30 a.m. for the 8 a.m. event.
For the third annual Turkeys for Troops, 2,000 turkeys were being distributed to military families.
Organizers were to start at 8 a.m., but with traffic backed up on College Street, they decided to go early at 7:30. The final turkeys were handed out at 12:40 p.m., according to Charlie Koon, VP/Director of Corporate & Military Business Development at F&M Bank, who helped start the project in 2018.
When it started, they gave away 1,000 turkeys. In year two, it was 1,500, and this year 2,000.
The giveaway is made possible by title sponsors F&M Bank, James Corlew Chevrolet, LifePoint Church and the Maynard family. Other supporting sponsors include Beaver 100.3, Z97.5, Q108, Rewind 94.3, Ajax Distributing, Tristar Beverage, Gordon Food Service Store, Austin Peay State University and Lanier Landscaping.
