CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A United Way group called Hands On is organizing a volunteer effort to assist people whose homes were flooded in the recent heavy rains in Clarksville.

They are looking for volunteers to help remove water and water-damaged items, as well as gutting out damaged flooring, carpet, tile, trim, drywall, insulation, cabinetry and doors, according to a news release. Volunteers may also be assigned to clean and sanitize salvageable items.

All volunteers should:

  • Be comfortable using tools and equipment such as sledgehammers, prybars, hammers, chisels, shovels, utility knives and floor scrapers.
  • Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, and also waterproof shoes or work boots.
  • Be comfortable lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

To learn more and to sign up, go to the United Way Hands On volunteer signup page.

Personal protective equipment such as Tyvek suits, safety glasses, respirators and gloves will be provided and must be worn at all times. This project is not recommended for volunteers with any respiratory illness. Hands On will provide water and snacks for volunteers throughout the project.

The address for this project will be shared with volunteers on Friday, as the organizers are still assessing on-site damage.
