Story by Nastasia Slusser, the Uprising
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Uprising returns to Clarksville early this fall on October 11, this time located at Music and Mass Communication Building on the Austin Peay State University campus.
This Uprising, like the previous ones, is a large-scale event sponsored by local churches seeking to provide the Clarksville community with good news. Each Uprising is the culmination of area churches working together, months of planning, fundraising and social media marketing around the community. As usual, event organizers expect to see even greater numbers in attendance for the Uprising III than the earlier events.
October’s Uprising will feature alternative Ohio rock band House of Heroes. The focus of the evening, however, is a message of hope given by Kevin Miller, the main teaching pastor of Awaken Church, which sponsors this event.
“We want to bring people together for a night of amazing music, and more importantly, a life-altering message about life, death and eternity,” says Miller, “Everyone is encouraged to bring some friends to experience this amazing night.”
In keeping with this goal, Miller is giving this message to those who are usually disinterested in spiritual matters or who brush off traditional churches.
This fall’s Uprising will showcase House of Heroes, an Ohio-based alternative rock band that has toured with Five Iron Frenzy, Silverchair and TobyMac. Their single, “Touch This Light,” can be heard on RadioU. Prior Uprisings have featured Love and Death (formed by former Korn guitarist, Brian “Head” Welch) and The Almost.
The Uprising is free for those attending, and will be held at the Music and Mass Communication Building, on the APSU campus at the corner of Eighth and Marion streets on Friday, October 11. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend this event, regardless of age, background, social status, spiritual beliefs, or music preference and all are encouraged to bring a friend with them.
