Update, 3 p.m.: Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes of receiving the call, but it took until about midnight to get it completely out due to its complexity, said CFR Deputy Chief of Operation Jim Eley.

The fire started with the furnace in the cellar of the roughly 100-year-old home, with only one way to get there: a wooden staircase that had burned down, Eley told Clarksville Now. Firefighters had to make their own access. The home had extensive damage. “They did a really good job saving most of the home,” he said. “It could have bee much worse.”

The family of three will be displaced. A dog was killed in the fire.

CFR Stations 1 and 5 responded, along with EMS and Gas and Water.
