HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Hopkinsville Police Department (HPD) has apprehended a man accused of assaulting a police officer and fleeing the scene.

An arrest warrant says the officer pulled over 37-year-old Jimone Waddell after witnessing him ignore a stop sign at the intersection of Whitney and Durrett Avenue Feb. 13.

The officer said he smelled marijuana when he approached the vehicle.

Waddell, who had turned off his vehicle, became increasingly nervous according to the officer and re-started his vehicle.

The officer said in his report that he attempted to grab Waddell out of the vehicle, at which point Waddell allegedly hit the officer’s left hand repeatedly, causing a hairline fracture, and fled.

The warrants states that when the Waddell drove away the officer was still partially inside the vehicle and his body camera was torn off and destroyed in the process. The camera was valued at $899.99.

The officer’s report said when the body camera was torn off, it was run over by Waddell’s vehicle and as he pulled away he reportedly almost hit the officer.

Waddell was arrested by Hopkinsville Police Tuesday, Feb. 16 at approximately 11:45 a.m. in the area of the 1800 block of Jan Drive and East Parkview Drive. He was arrested as the result of an anonymous tip called into the Hopkinsville-Christian County Crime Stoppers.
