HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks has announced a new public transportation service that began this week in the city.

The system, known as Hopkinsville Transit, includes two twelve-passenger buses that each run one-hour routes. Details for a ribbon cutting/service launch ceremony will be announced later this month.

Covering nearly 38 miles, the bus routes connect a number of local neighborhoods to the downtown core, Hopkinsville Industrial Park, medical facilities, Hopkinsville Community College, and shopping venues throughout town.

“We are excited about the partnerships that have allowed this important, long desired project to come to life,” Mayor Hendricks said. “It could not have happened without the support of City Council, our Public Transit Advisory Committee led by Paul Henson and Kim McCarley, the able assistance of transportation service providers at Pennyrile Allied Community Services, and generous funding through the State Transportation Cabinet.”

Regular fares are $1 each way with free transfers. Hopkinsville Transit also offers discounted fares for students, seniors, military, and the disabled, as well as $5 weekly passes and $15 monthly passes. Hopkinsville Transit operates Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Each bus leaves the transfer station at PACS at the top of each hour.
