Christian County, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) A Hopkinsville High School student, 18-year-old Brandon Govan, has been charged with 3rd Degree Terroristic Threatening after Christian County Public Schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a text message threat was made towards the school.
Hopkinsville Police say Govan admitted starting a text message that insinuated Hopkinsville High School was in danger. The police report says that Govan borrowed a phone from a friend while at school and sent himself a text message saying “Don’t go to school somebody pose to be shooting it up go home please,” and then sent the message to other students.
Police say he admitted making the threat to be sent home from school.
Paul Ray, Hopkinsville Police Department Public Information Officer said the lockdown lasted for approximately an hour to an hour and twenty minutes and ended around 10:25 a.m.
Heather Lancaster, spokesperson for Christian County Schools, said she wanted to let parents know that at all times during the lockdown students were kept safe and class schedules have resumed as normal.
Hopkinsville Police, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police were involved in the investigation.
