HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Hopkinsville Community College was just named one of the top community colleges in the country, according to a recent survey.

Not all community colleges are created equally. The national survey, conducted by WalletHub, examined multiple factors when determining the best community colleges in the nation.

They studied 700 community colleges using 19 indicators including the cost of in-state tuition and fees, student-faculty ratio, and graduation rate.

Hopkinsville Community College ranked Number 18 in the nation, and first in Kentucky. In comparison, Nashville State Community College ranked 229th in the nation, and tenth in Tennessee.

Hopkinsville Community College specializes in a variety of associate degrees, certificates, and diplomas. Programs range in opportunities including skilled labor, computers, agriculture, business and medical fields, trucking, education, and more. The college was founded in 1965 and has two locations in Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell.

The rising costs of college tuition, and the looming financial burden traditional four year schools place on families, often makes community colleges an attractive alternative. Even for those planning the transition to a four year university after high school may opt for a community college for their general education requirements.

That choice can often lead to thousands of dollars in savings. In Tennessee students and adults have options when considering the costs for higher education.

High School students in Tennessee may be eligible for Tennessee Promise, the state program that offers two years of tuition-free community college or technical school to all high school graduates, regardless of income. Tennessee Reconnect is a last-dollar grant for adults that wish to pursue an associate degree or technical certificate, tuition-free.
