CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – For the first time in seven years, the Rossview Hawks enter spring practice under a new coach.

For the new coach, it’s also the first time in seven years he’s entered spring practice with a new team. Todd Hood, who led the Clarksville Academy Cougars to six consecutive play off appearances, now leads his new team, the Rossview Hawks into 2017.

For Hood the transition has been smooth up to this point.

“The adjustment hasn’t been the big thing. It’s all the little things. Players, coaches, managers. The whole deal. We are moving along at a good pace but, it’s going to take time for everyone to mesh together and work as one,” Hood said.

Hood inherits a team who finished 4th in their region last year, with a first round play off appearance. The Hawks return their entire offensive line, along with a talented backfield that includes Fred Orr, Isaiah Phillips, Jakob Harris, and Clayton Spence. The purpose of spring practice is to evaluate what personnel will look like, and for the Hawks, this will be no different.

“My man goal this spring is to evaluate the players. We are doing that and getting a good idea of what each player can and can’t do and what things we need to work on and adjust,” Hood said. “Our next goal is to get our base offense and defense in and see what we need to work on over the summer. Our players our doing a great job of buying into what we are tying to do here. Overall it’s been a good transition and my coaching staff has been great.”

The Hawks make the jump this year to 6A with regional opponents Wilson Central, Mt.Juliet, and Hendersonville.

Rossview will open up their 2017 season on August 18 at crosstown rival, Clarksville High School, in the battle of the Warfield Shield.
