CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center proudly announces the forthcoming release of the third edition of Historic Clarksville 1784-2024, a deluxe, hard-bound volume authored by veteran Clarksville journalist Jimmy Settle. The museum invites the public to join the book release event from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at The Museum Store at the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center.
Jimmy Settle said, “History is here and now, and ever evolving. The community that we track in this third edition of Historic Clarksville has experienced a growth trajectory within the past two decades that is unrivaled at any other time in its past. Clarksville’s public identity on the regional and national scale was once somewhat challenged, but that is no more. Everyone now knows where the community is located, and increasingly, the world is learning what makes Clarksville uniquely important. And, I am personally honored and humbled to have been asked to author it. This is a dream realized.”

This edition offers a 240-year retrospective of Clarksville’s journey, tracing its evolution from frontier settlement to the community it is today. As a new edition, the book features a new chapter that covers the past two decades.
Burchett Media, the publisher, is donating 150 copies to 55 public and private schools; local, regional and university libraries; all Montgomery County assisted living and nursing home facilities; Fort Campbell libraries; Montgomery County commissioners; Clarksville City Council members; CMCSS School Board; the Tennessee Historical Commission; Gov. Bill Lee’s office; and the Library of Congress.

Wally Burchett said, “I am thrilled to have been involved in this two-year project. It is very noteworthy that Clarksville is one of a handful of cities in our country that could accomplish this from start to finish. Every element – research, writing, editing, photography, graphic design, and printing – was carried out by Clarksvillians. This makes me enormously proud. Much gratitude to the Gallery of Commerce businesses. Their participation allowed this book project to be financially feasible.”
Attendees can purchase copies of the book for $49.95 at The Museum Store during Noel Night from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center. Historic Clarksville will continue to be available through The Museum Store and will also support the Customs House Museum’s educational and cultural programs. All net proceeds from the sale of Historic Clarksville benefit the Customs House Museum.
The book can be ordered from The Museum Store online.
