CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Hilltop Supermarket at 400 Highway 149 in Clarksville is celebrating 50 years of being part of the community and thanking all of their customers for their support of the grocery store.
In 1967, founder Wayne Hall along with five employees opened the first Hilltop Supermarket across the road from the site of the current store. There were 13 employees when the decision was made in 1990 to move across the street into a brand new 12,000 square foot store.
The name was changed to Hilltop Cee Bee and current owner Mike Jackson joined the growing staff of 30 employees. In 1995 construction on a new facility began and in October of that year, the facility grew to 24,500 square feet of features, departments, and services.
The time came when Hall decided to retire, but he didn’t want to sell his precious family-owned store to a big corporation so he offered it to Mike Jackson and his son Cody. They took ownership on January 1, 2013. They felt it was right for them to bring back the name of Hilltop Supermarket.
There are now 45 employees ready to serve the public at Clarksville’s only family owned and operated grocery store. Cody Jackson explained what it means to him and his father as they celebrate 50 years of personal service to the community.
“I feels great. It’s a huge accomplishment, being a big part of this community for as long as we have. It’s a testament to the hard work we’ve put in and the faith the community has in us to continue to shop with us and keep us here for this long,” said Jackson.
Jackson added that Hilltop prides itself on their old fashioned values and customer service. Along with a wide selection of grocery items, they offer fresh cut meats, home grown produce, specialty cakes, and a deli.
“We have a lot of great employees and a lot of great people in this community that make it a joy to be here every day,” Jackson said.
