CLARKSVILLE, TN – History was made on the ice this past week as the Montgomery County Rangers, the county’s brand-new high school ice hockey team, took to the rink for the first time. The Clarksville Ford Ice Center was full of excited players and nervous family members as we all witnessed the birth of what promises to be a thrilling new chapter in local sports. The Rangers took the ice for a team practice, the first of many, to prepare for the upcoming GNASH season.

The Rangers are comprised of students athletes from various schools in Montgomery County, many of which played in leagues in the Nashville area.

“This is something we’ve been working toward for years,” said Jim Feckner, Rangers president and the man tasked with leading the Rangers in their inaugural season. “To finally see these kids out on the ice, representing their school and their community, is incredibly rewarding. We have a lot of talent here, and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish.”

“We’re just getting started,” said Coach Brian Bailey. “There’s a long season ahead, and we have a lot of work to do.” Coach Bailey and Coach Josh Tobin both come to the Rangers with a wealth of experience coaching teams in the Nashville area. The Rangers will play in the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey League, GNASH for short, against High School teams from Nashville and surrounding communities.

The month of August will see numerous practice sessions at the Ford Ice Center, Clarksville along with a Team Car Wash Fundraiser at Noon on Saturday, Aug. 24, at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Riverside Drive. Additionally, sponsorships are still available to support our new team. Brandi Barnes leads the fundraising committee and is available to answer questions.

The Rangers Varsity Team will play their first game, at the Ford Ice Center, Clarksville on Sept. 18.
