CLAKSVILLE, Tenn. – Since the inception of its Scholarship Fund in 2004, Heritage Bank has awarded scholarships to public and private high schools within its footprint.

In each market area, Heritage Bank awards the scholarships in honor of a community member who has had an impact on education. The Montgomery County honoree for 2016 is Elinor McCutchen Andrews.

Mrs. Andrews has taught for a total of thirty-six years within the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. She began teaching at Cumberland Heights Elementary School in 1971 with half a day as a Physical Education instructor for Kindergarten-6th grade students, and half a day in the classroom with 6th grade students. Throughout her career, she has taught at all grade levels.

During two years of her tenure, Andrews served as an evaluator for the Tennessee Career Ladder program. In 1989, she discovered her niche was counseling middle school students. Mrs. Andrews retired from Rossview Middle School in 2005.

Elinor says some of her most cherished memories and achievements are the students that she met and taught in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. She noted how delightful it is to run into a student and hear about their accomplishments. She commented, “What a blessing it is to have life-long relationships with so many former students who have made Clarksville their home.” Her years of teaching also allowed her the opportunity to work alongside many educators and staff members she considers dear friends.

To date, Heritage Bank has contributed more than $312,500 in scholarship funds to 625 high school seniors to assist them in attending the college or university of their choice. In 2016, Heritage Bank will award scholarship funds to 62 more students in western Kentucky as well as middle and west Tennessee.

A banquet will be held in Hopkinsville, KY on April 14, to award the scholarship recipients. Those attending will include the scholarship recipients and their parents, honorees, as well as the school principals and guidance counselors.
