Herbert McMurray Gould, age 82, of Tennessee Ridge, TN, passed away Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at his home surrounded by friends and family.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the chapel of Nave Funeral Home, with Bro. Daniel Medders and Bro. Robert Trent officiating, burial will follow in Gould-Ivey Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, and again from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday.
Herbert was born on March 14, 1942 in Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee, son of Edward Penrose Gould and Mildred Pauline Burchfield. He served 20 years in the US Navy, Submarine Service, and later worked for the Houston County Sheriff’s Department and Land Between the Lakes. In 2004 he retired from the City of Waverly Police Department where he was DARE officer and also a national trainer for Character Counts! Program. He was a member of Erin Church of the Nazarene, the Gideons, the VFW, American Legion Post 73, and US Submarine Veterans. He was past Governor of the Tennessee State Society of Mayflower Descendants, past President of Valentine Sevier Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and a member of numerous other lineage societies.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his son, Stephen Christoper Gould.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Ellen Demarest Gould of Tennessee Ridge; son Thomas Gould (Misty) of Clarksville; daughters Cathy Deason (Shay) of Tennessee Ridge, and Maryanna Powell (Lance) of Grand Junction, Colorado; sister Sharon Burks of Montgomery, Alabama; Six grandchildren: Brittany Ross (Andy) of Centerville; Zach Deason (Claire) of Jackson; Jacob Gould of Chattanooga; Ella Gould of Clarksville, Murray Gould (Deidre) of Tarkington, Texas and Colin Gould of Huntsville, Texas; and five great-grandchildren: Briley, Jaycey, Felicity, Jameson McMurray Ross and Braxton McMurray Gould.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Murray Gould, Jacob Gould, Zachary Deason, Andy Ross, Mike Miller, Shay Deason, and Lance Powell. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be James Palmour, James VanFleet, and Glen Baggett.
