STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Heading into the week, Rowdy, Henry County’s bloodhound extraordinaire, had 10 arrests under his collar. But it’s the 11th one that’ll have him in the county paper.

Early Friday morning, he was hot on the trail of Kirby Gene Wallace.

“Rowdy, basically got a track from a house last night, where the suspect was last seen,” explained Sheriff Monte Belew, with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. “The track led us to a northeast direction.”

This new info and new smell led law enforcement to set up a new perimeter.

Shortly after though, Sheriff Belew, and Corporal Stacey Bostwick broke off from the pack.

“Decided we would go outside of the hot zone, kind of set up in the direction Rowdy had led us in,” Belew explained. “Just by chance, there happened to be two deer stands, that weren’t 40 yards apart, on the edge of this field area.”

So, the two settled into the deer stands.

Three hours later, they spotted movement in the tree line. Kirby Gene Wallace had spent much of his time looking for crews on the ground, and helicopters high above, but didn’t think to look up in the trees.

“As he was coming towards us, we just let him keep coming until he got till about 30 yards from me,” Belew said.

Soon after the verbal demands began. Wallace initially gave in, then appeared to have second thoughts.

“He did make an evasive move, and jumped behind a tree,” said Belew. “At that point in time, Corp. Bostwick and I thought we were gonna be in a very violent situation with him.”

Luckily though, guns remained in their holsters.

Wallace emerged moments later from behind the tree and complied with law enforcement’s commands.

In fact, while waiting for backup to arrive, Bostwick was able to take a much deserved, unorthodox rest, sitting on the suspect.

“During the handcuffing and all that, yeah I didn’t want him to get up,” Corp. Bostwick said. “We’ve chased him too far and too long.”

As quickly as it began, it was over.

Wallace would spend his Friday in the Stewart County jail.

Our Henry County trio returned home and received special framed plaques from the TBI.

Bostwick told News 2 Rowdy has a steak with his name on it tonight.
