CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – On Friday, March 27, Centerstone Military Services and its program Courage Beyond will host Helping Our Heroes Heal in Clarksville.
This free, one-day conference is recommended for military leaders, mental health professionals, community leaders and others interested in improving their community’s response to sexual and domestic violence. It will be held from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Conference Building at First Baptist Church of Clarksville at 435 Madison Street.
At Helping Our Heroes Heal, survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence will share their stories, and information related to best practices for serving survivors in the military community will be provided.
Topics that will be covered include the frequency of domestic violence in the military, including the distinction between abusive behaviors and post-traumatic stress reactions; the impact of sexual assault on service members and families; and the significance of a trauma-informed response to survivors within the military community.
The conference will be facilitated by Pamela Jacobs, J.D., an attorney and advocate who has served survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence for 15 years.
