Helen Marie O’Connell Hobson, age 86 of Clarksville passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at her residence.
Helen was born on June 13, 1935 in Nashville, TN to the late George C. O’Connell and Marcus Marie Williams O’Connell. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Howard A. Hobson Jr., son, Paul N. Hobson and brother, James H. Roberts Jr. She is survived by her son, Daniel T. Hobson; daughter, Sharon Carl; sister, Betty Pearl Hooper; grandchildren: Nora Hobson, Magda Marie Mirviss and Andrew S. H. Heilborn.
Helen was born in Nashville, but spent the majority of her youth in Clarksville where she attended high school. She majored in Art at Vassar College for two years, and met and married Howard Hobson Jr. in 1954. They raised their children, Sharon, Danny and Paul on the west coast, in Oregon and California. After Howard passed, she returned to Clarksville to be near her family. She attended Austin Peay University, graduating with a Bachelors in Painting and went on to receive her MFA in creative writing. She worked for many years as an artist, showing her work at the Downtown Artists Cooperative and Gallery. She loved literature and reading, and in 2019 she folded 1,000 cranes for good luck and good health. She has been distributing them to family, friends and caregivers ever since. She was a loving soul and will be missed so very much.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
