CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The heat wave continues into a third day today, with a high of 97 degrees and a heat index of 106 expected.

On Tuesday afternoon, the temperature at Outlaw Field reached 94 degrees, and the heat index hit 106. On Monday, it reached 94 degrees, with the heat index hitting 104.

Montgomery and surrounding counties are under a Heat Advisory from noon today through Friday at 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A heat index of up to 107 is expected every day.

“Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur,” the NWS said. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Heat wave continues

The worst is still to come, with highs rising to 98 on Thursday and 99 on Friday. The heat wave should break on Sunday. Here’s the outlook:

Thursday: Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 109. South wind around 5 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 74. South southwest wind around 5 mph.

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. West southwest wind around 5 mph.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon.
