NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed the first case of a human testing positive for the Zika virus in Davidson County.

WKRN News 2 reported the information from the Metro Nashville Health Department Tuesday.

The infected individual recently returned to Nashville after traveling to Honduras where Zika disease is being transmitted by mosquitoes.

The individual is expected to recover.

Health Department staff will be visiting the Otter Creek area, where the infected person lives, to distribute flyers to area residents.

Three cases of Zika have been previously reported in the state.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent infection and no specific antiviral treatment for Zika virus infection.
