Harold Eugene McManis, 81, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Gateway Medical Center.
Harold was born in Trimble, TN to the late Luther McManis and Jewel Hornbeck McManis. He was also preceded in death by his brother, J.W. McManis.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Pastor Danny Eads officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 and from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Harold was a POW for 33 months in the Korean War. He served three deployments in Vietnam and retired after 23 years in the U.S. Army as a CW3. His second retirement was from the U.S. Government after 20 years of service. Harold loved his church, family, and Masonic Lodge activities. His favorite past-times include hunting and fishing.
Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris McManis of Clarksville, TN; three sons, Jimmy (Katherine) McManis, Sr. of Indian Mound, TN, Jimmy McManis, and Jeffrey McManis of Clarksville, TN; three daughters, Alice (Bubba) Payne of Woodlawn, TN, Theresa (Kevin) Kyle of Marion, OH, and Janice McCreary of Nashville, TN; sister, Agnes Sergel of Union city, TN; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and his special four-legged “babies” Rosie and Clyde.
Military will serve as pallbearers. Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kenwood Baptist Church, 992 Peachers Mill Road, Clarksville, TN 37042 or the Masonic Lodge 285 in Newbern, TN.
