Harold M. Perry, age 83, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his home, at Uffelman Estates.
He was born June 12, 1931 in Ocean Springs, MS, to the late Sidney Perry and Cora Schmidt Perry.
Harold grew up in Grenada, MS. He went into the Air Force and served in France during the Korean War, from 1950-1953. After leaving the Service, he went to Mississippi College, where he met Joan Everitt, to whom he was married for 56 years. After college and he began his teaching career in Pascagoula, MS. They lived in Nashville from 1965 to 2011. Mr. Perry taught for four years in Mississippi and 29 years in Nashville, having served as an educator for 33 years, mainly at Harpeth Valley Elementary School. When elementary schools became grades one through four, he was moved to Head Middle School for his last couple years of teaching. He was a member of MENSEA and of First Church Unity, where he was an active member. He had love for education and a great love for all people.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 at Uffelman Estates in Clarksville. Harold’s remains will be cremated, and the ashes of he and his surviving wife, Joan Perry, will be buried at a later date, in Mendenhall, MS.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by two sons, Robert Everitt Perry and Harold Lee Perry; daughter, Cathy Perry Sprayberry-Gravitt; seven grandchildren, Caleb (Jenny) Sprayberry, Micala Gravitt, Ayana Perry, Eli Perry, Chelsey (Dave) McCollum, Everitt Perry, and Morgan Perry; and one great grandchildren, Dahlia McCollum.
