CLARKSVILLE, TN – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Tennessee will open its New Homeownership application period on February 4, with applications available online for eligible individuals and families seeking affordable housing.

Habitat’s program is built on partnership, not a handout. Selected applicants become Habitat partner families by completing sweat equity hours, homeowner education, and financial preparation, then purchasing their home with an affordable mortgage designed for long-term stability.

“This program is about dignity, partnership, and preparing families for sustainable homeownership,” Habitat leadership shared.

A Story of Partnership

Antoinette Bessellieu, a single mother of two, first applied for Habitat in 2022 but was denied due to her credit. Instead of giving up, she rebuilt her credit and applied again — and was accepted. “Sometimes I still can’t believe it — that me and my kids are actually going to have a home,” Bessellieu said. “That means everything to us.”

Throughout the process, she completed sweat equity, attended classes, and built relationships within the Habitat community. “Habitat makes dreams come true,” she shared. “They’re a family — they’re there with open arms.”

Her advice to future applicants is simple: “Don’t be scared to get denied. All you can do is try again. Just don’t give up.”

How to Apply
