CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 89th and 90th homes in Clarksville-Montgomery County Sunday, January 31. Habitat for Humanity began its work in the community in 1992 partnering with qualified applicants for new homes.
Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Shelby Logsdon talked about the homes. “What a great way to start a new year with 2 new dedications. So many local businesses and supporters helped build theses homes,” said Logsdon.
The first home dedication was for Ramona Parks on Ann Drive. “It’s awesome. We went through a lot a couple of years ago when I lost my oldest son. When this came through and Habitat was willing to help us out it was a blessing,” said Parks.
The second home dedication was for the Alexander Ellis family on Poplar Court. “It feels great. The family loves it, I love it and it fits us. I can’t say thanks enough for it,” Ellis said.
Cynthia Gray, a representative of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), also participated in the dedications of the homes by donating a starter library of books to each of the families.
Logsdon added that the families invested between 250-500 hours of sweat equity toward the building of their new homes with the final hours spent working side by side with the volunteers and supporters of Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat hopes to build at least 3 new homes in Clarksville-Montgomery County in 2016. The local Habitat for Humanity chapter says they need more sponsors to make that happen.
Home sponsorships are an ideal way for organizations and businesses to invest in the Clarksville community. Habitat collaborates with faith, civic and business organizations who envision neighborhood revitalization through new home construction.
