CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday, June 20, at 910 Richardson St. for future homeowner Cheyenne Fisher and her son Draison.
More than 60 friends, neighbors and supporters of Habitat for Humanity turned out to share their joy for the Fisher family. Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and Cynthia Pitts attended the event along with Montgomery County Commissioner Rashidah Leverett.

Habitat is working in partnership with Living Hope Church on building the Fisher home, and Lead Pastor Derek Smith praised the organization for their work in the community.
“Cheyenne, we pray that this is a blessing to you and to Draison, and I look forward to getting to know you better,” Smith said. Smith added that Living Hope wants to continue to partner with Habitat and would love to continue to invest in a Habitat house every year for the next three years.
Habitat for Humanity board member Kevin Underwood introduced Fisher and said the work of Habitat is about people and sharing the love that Christ gave to us with others.
Fisher was emotionally moved. “I’m very appreciative; my heart is so filled with joy. I am thankful for this day and just to have a home and to be blessed with so much love; thank you so much,” Fisher said.
Rob Selkow, executive director of Habitat for Humanity, explained to those gathered that Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out for their new homes and talked about what he called a pretty competitive process for Fisher involving her income, credit, a need for a home, the ability to repay an affordable loan, and a willingness to partner with Habitat.
