CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Gateway Woman’s Club of Clarksville joined Loaves & Fishes along with other groups Sunday to hold an event supporting the hungry and homeless in the community at the First Presbyterian Church Activities Center.
During the afternoon volunteers were busy as over 60 people in need stopped by with close to 100 bagged lunches. Many people received haircuts and some of the homeless also took advantage of showers.
“This mission today does really touch a lot of people who do not have access to basic toiletries and facilities to take a shower, to get cool, to get clean and to get their haircut,” Tamara Long, Board Chairman for Loaves & Fishes said.
Long said the organizations plan to offer the free services and a support system for the hungry and homeless on a regular basis, likely on the first Sunday of every month at the First Presbyterian site.
Along with Loaves & Fishes, YAIPaks was on hand offering free clothing. There were also teen volunteers from Clarksville High School, volunteer hair stylists, and a member of Friends of Aunt Flo provided hygiene products.
