CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Greg Gilman has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Tennessee state representative, District 68.

Gilman moved here in 1987 after being assigned to Fort Campbell as a U.S. Army aviator. He retired from the Army in 2007 and remained here in Clarksville, choosing this as his permanent home. He is an instructor pilot for the military and has been flying for over 42 years. He is married to his high school sweetheart (Laura) and resides in Sango.

He has a master’s degree in safety and has been in several management positions overseeing the safe operation of over $1.5 billion in equipment and 3,500-plus personnel while sometimes working within the constraints of tight budgets.

Gilman is a combat veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Division in Desert Storm and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He often volunteers in local cleanup activities, including after the crippling ice storm of 1994, the devastating tornado of 1999, the floods of 2010 and numerous more recent calls to action. He currently serves as director of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Reserves and has been a reserve deputy for over 10 years. In this capacity, he’s helped many organizations from warming centers in the winter to organized food drives. Gilman also regularly volunteers with the American Mobility Project.

“Montgomery County is experiencing an infrastructure crisis,” Gilman said. “Like most of you, I’m frustrated by the lack of progress. We hear about upcoming projects quite frequently, but very little actually gets started. With the influx of new residents, the issue is constantly worsening. We need a new approach to solving this ongoing issue. We need representation outside the circle of politics, a citizen legislator, not a career politician; that is why I’m running.”
