CLARKSVILLE, TN – Greenwood Cemetery lost 27 trees in the last massive storm that came through Clarksville. Greenwood’s office manager, Victoria Ashcraft, reached out to the State of Tennessee and sent in the form for a grant for trees that could be donated to the cemetery.
The request was granted, and she worked with Rehgan Pierce, Forestry Program Manager for Cumberland River Compact to get trees native to the Clarksville-Montgomery County area and an amount not overwhelming to the cemetery to help replace some of the trees lost.
Victoria, Rehgan, and grounds manager, Chris Ingram worked to find the proper place in Greenwood to plant the 22 trees donated by Cumberland River Compact. Once the types of trees were picked and the date was set for planting, Ky Munder, Volunteer Coordinator with Cumberland River Compact, reached out to local businesses for volunteers to help plant the trees.
The Google plant, located in Clarksville, stepped up and nine of their employees volunteered to help plant trees. The trees are located on the back of Section 17 and between Section 17 and SP8. Thank you to Coop on Wilma Rudolph for donating the mulch to place around the twenty-two trees. Thank you to Greenwood Cemetery Grounds crew for helping place the trees before the volunteers arrived.
