CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team defeated Trevecca 69-51, Saturday in the Dunn Center, improving its record 3-1 – the best four-game start to a season since 2002.
The Governors went on to go 27-4 that season en route to an OVC Championship after beginning the regular season 4-1.
On Saturday, senior center Tearra Banks scored a season-high 18 points by shooting 6-of-10 from the field, and also hauled in six rebounds. Banks has now totaled 10-plus points in each game this year with at least five boards in the team’s first four games.
An additional 10 Govs scored against the Trojans, including junior guard Bri Williams and senior guard April Rivers recording nine points apiece.
The Govs never trailed in the contest, leading for all but 42 seconds. APSU’s defense held Trevecca to 17 points combined in the second and third periods, limiting the visitors to under 28 percent shooting in each of the two quarters.
The Governors pack their bags for the first road trip of the season, beginning 7:30 p.m., Monday, at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
