(CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (ESPN Clarksville) Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team found out their fate for the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tennis Championships, traveling to Athens, Georgia to face with Wake Forest, 10 a.m., Saturday.
The Governors (22-0, 8-0 OVC) will face off with the 22nd ranked Demon Deacons (20-8, 10-6 ACC) for the first time in program history. This is Austin Peay’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2010, when they went up against Georgia Tech.
“This is very exciting, I could not be more ecstatic about the performance of our team, 22-0. We have some dynamic student-athletes and an outstanding coaching staff,” said Austin Peay Athletic Director, Gerald Harrison. Harrison added that the Governors are the only undefeated team in college Division I tennis.
The other match features the hosts of the four-team playoff, No. 2 Georgia, and Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Alabama State. The winner of each match will play one another, 2 p.m., Sunday, for a chance to advance to NCAA Super Regional.
Tickets for first and second rounds in Athens are $5 per day for adults and $3 per day for youth (college age and younger). All tickets can be purchased at the gate beginning one hour prior to the first match each day.
