CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Another week, another slate of conference basketball for Austin Peay State University. Both the men’s and women’s teams went 1-1 last week and will be looking to bounce back on Thursday.

Entering Thursday’s contests, the men’s team is sitting at 11-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The men took down Eastern Kentucky at home Thursday and then lost a close one to Lipscomb on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the women will enter Thursday with an 11-5 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. The women’s team dominated Bellarmine on the road last Thursday, and then, like the men’s team, lost a close one to Lipscomb on Saturday.

This week, both teams have two more opportunities to add wins. Now, let’s preview the upcoming matchups.

Men’s Basketball

Thursday, Jan. 22: APSU vs. Florida Gulf Coast

The men will begin their weekly slate with a matchup against the Eagles. The Eagles enter at 8-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The game was originally slated to be Thursday night, but due to expected inclement weather, the game will now be at noon on Thursday.

This will be the second meeting of the season for these teams. The Govs won the first matchup 82-71 on the back of Zyree Collins, who put up 25 points.

The men’s team has been unstoppable at home. The Govs are a perfect 7-0 at home and 4-6 on the road.

Friday, Jan. 23: APSU vs. Stetson

Stetson is another Florida team that’s already been to Clarksville this season and lost to the Govs. Before this week’s action, Stetson is sitting at 7-12 and 3-3 in conference games. Like the FGCU game, this game has also been moved, from Saturday afternoon to noon on Friday.

In the first matchup between these teams, the Govs escaped with an 81-69 win. Collin Parker had a huge game for the Govs, putting up 27 points and six rebounds.

The Govs won’t play FGCU or Stetson again in the regular season after this week, so they’re looking to pull off a sweep of both teams.

Women’s Basketball

Thursday, Jan. 22: APSU at Florida Gulf Coast

The first game of the week for the women’s team will take place at Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles are 9-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play, so this will be a tough test for the Govs.

These teams already faced off once this season, on Jan. 8 in Clarksville. The Eagles escaped F&M Bank Arena with a 58-54 win thanks to a 24-point explosion from sophomore guard Sinai Douglas.

The Govs have been a different team on the road, though. The team is just 3-5 at F&M Bank Arena and 8-0 on the road. A win in this rematch would give the Govs a winning record in conference play heading into Saturday.

Saturday, Jan. 24: APSU at Stetson

The women’s team will remain in the state of Florida and head to Stetson on Saturday. Ahead of this week’s games, Stetson is 10-7 and 3-3 in conference play.

Like FGCU, the Govs have already played Stetson in Clarksville this season. In that game, the Govs lost another close one, falling 56-53. The Hatters had four players score in double figures in that contest.

The Govs have been great on the road this season. With a loss on Thursday at FGCU, this game would become a must win.
