CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – The month of May promises plenty of action for fans attending Austin Peay State University baseball games with several promotions and events scheduled for the final month of the college baseball season.

The most anticipated event during the month will be the Governors Military Appreciation Day, Saturday, May 4. The Govs will host Gold Star family members who lost a loved one in combat. During the game, the Governors will wear a one-of-a-kind jersey which is emblazoned with a gold star and the fallen soldiers initials. Those jerseys will be presented by members of the baseball team to the Gold Star families in attendance during a ceremony at the game’s conclusion.

Echo Power Engineering – led by Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joe Maynard and his wife, Cathi – has generously donated 400 tickets to active duty and retired military members, which includes the members of the Gold Star families in attendance. These tickets will only be available the day of the game at the Raymond C. Hand Park ticket booth and fans must have their valid USPIC ID cards.

During pregame activities, the game ball will be delivered by a helicopter from the Austin Peay new Aviation Science department. The Governors Guard, Austin Peay’s ROTC detachment, will present the colors with a special presentation of the national anthem.

Later in the month, Austin Peay will recognize the contributions of Joe and Cathi Maynard during a ceremony prior to the Friday, May 17 contest against Jacksonville State. The university will name the playing surface at Raymond C. Hand Park as Joe Maynard Field in recognition of the Maynard family’s significant contributions to the on-going improvements at the baseball facilities.

Those interested in joining in the pregame dedication ceremonies should RSVP to the Austin Peay alumni office by email at alumni@apsu.edu. Please include “Baseball Dedication” in the subject line of the email.

Austin Peay’s baseball team currently is amidst a heated battle for the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title, entering this week tied for the league lead with six conference games remaining.

All upcoming promotions are weather permitting. Tickets for all upcoming Governors baseball games may be purchased online at LetsGoPeay.com/buytickets
