CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Governors Square Mall announced a multi-million dollar renovation Wednesday, February 19. Since its opening nearly 28 years ago Governors Square has looked much the way it does today. That all changes in March when work will begin on changes that will transform both the look and feel of the mall.

There are plans for new ceilings and skylights, energy efficient lighting along with heating and cooling improvements, new carpeting and porcelain tile flooring as well as a refreshed look for the public restrooms.

Mall entrances and signage will also get a new contemporary design with the addition of new landscaping, upgraded seating areas and other customer amenities. All of the renovations are expected to compliment the new food court that was added to the mall in 2010.

Joe Bell, Spokesman for Cafaro, owner of Governors Square talked about the growth of the mall in Clarksville. ‘It’s a growing, thriving community and we think it’s very important that the retail center keeps up with the needs and tastes of people in the community. That’s part of the reason for renovating this mall to 21st century standards,” said Bell.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan shared her excitement about the renovations coming to the mall. “I am really excited about the changes. I am so happy and thankful pleased with the investment the company is making in our community by coming in here and doing what they’re doing,” McMillan said.

Local residents won’t have to worry about their shopping experience at the mall being interrupted. The vast majority of work will take place in the overnight hours when the mall is usually closed for business. Protective barriers will cover storefronts to keep out dust and debris.

Every morning, around dawn, construction crews will roll up the barriers, clean up debris and make sure the mall is ready for customers. Mall merchants will not lose a single day of business throughout the process. The entire project is scheduled to be finished in late October, just in time for the holiday shopping season and a grand reopening celebration is planned for mid-November.

Governors Square Mall is located at 2801 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in Clarksville. There is over one million feet of retail space anchored by Dillard’s, Belk, Sears, JCPenny, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Cinema 10 and over 100 other speciality shops and services.
