WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WKRN) – The dream lives on for the boys from Goodlettsville who pulled off a dramatic 4-2 win over California in seven innings Tuesday night.
Goodlettsville led the game 2-0 much of the way, but California tied it up with a two-run homer in the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, it looked like Goodlettsville had the game won, but Tanner Jones bid for a dramatic grand slam was caught just inches from the wall.
California looked like it had the game won in the bottom of the inning, but Jones gunned down the game winning run at the plate to end the inning. Replay revealed the runner was just inches from scoring the game winning run.
Goodlettsville got the winning run on the board when Tyler Jones led off with a solo homer for a 3-2 lead, adding one more run for insurance.
California threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but with two men on, Easton Dillard fielded a ground ball at second and tagged one runner and then threw out the other to end the threat and the game.
California is eliminated and Goodlettsville moves on to play Iowa Wednesday at 2 p.m. in another elimination game for both teams.
