WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WKRN) – The Goodlettsville All-Stars won their first game in the Little League World Series Thursday night.
A missed fly ball cost them two runs in the third inning, but thanks to a walk-off double from Robert Carroll in the bottom of the 6th inning, Goodlettsville is 1-0.
Facing Bend, Oregon, the All-Stars finally found a run trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third when Tanner Jones hit a solo homerun off Zack Reynolds to cut the lead to 2-1.
Reynolds was fantastic for Oregon on the mound but having exhausted his pitch count, he was forced out of the game in the final inning.
After Goodlettsville loaded the bases, it came down to Robert Carroll at the plate with two outs and the final chance for Goodlettsville. Carroll connected on an 0-1 pitch sending a ball to right field.
The Oregon right fielder got the tip of his glove on the ball but could not haul in the catch as Goodlettsville scored the games final two runs to win in the bottom of the 6th.
Goodlettsville pitcher Zach McWilliams struck out 9 batters en route to there dramatic win in the opening round.
The team will now play the Mid-Atlantic All-Stars on Sunday.
