CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Another sports figure, Mason Rudolph, is featured this week as we continue to learn more about famous people who have called Clarksville home. Rudolph was a professional golfer and is remembered in many ways, especially with a golf course that bears his name.
He was born Edgar Mason Rudolph in 1923 in Clarksville and before turning professional in 1958, he won a number of tournaments as an amateur. Rudolph won the U.S. Junior Amateur in 1950, and in 1956 he took home two titles, one for the Tennessee State Open and the Western Amateur.
After turning pro he joined the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) in 1959 where he was named Rookie of the Year. Throughout his professional career Rudolph won five PGA titles, eight other professional wins and took home five Tennessee State Open victories.
Rudolph was inducted as a charter member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame in 1990. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 76 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The Mason Rudolph Golf Course is a City of Clarksville course and can be found at 1514 Golf Club Lane. It’s a 9-hole 2,008-yard regulation length course. The course is also associated with the “Tennessee First Tee Program” which educates and supports young golfers in the community.
