Imagine a place where dreams come true for some very special children. It’s not a dream, it’s a real place and it’s called Camp Rainbow.
Camp Director Jereme Miner says the camp is for kids who have special medical needs or require monitoring.
Doctors and nurses from Premier Medical have donated their services over the years and Miner said this year nurses from Vanderbilt Medical Center will also share their support.
“We’re able to provide these kids with at least four nurses and at least one doctor 24-7 during their time there,” said Miner.
In 2018 close to 70 volunteers which include counselors, parents, and staff will host the event which will serve over 40 youngsters. Miner said it’s a total volunteer effort, no one is getting paid and none of the children have to pay to be there.
Camp Rainbow will open Sunday, June 10, with the volunteers showing up at Brandon Springs Group Camp at Land Between the Lakes. The children will arrive Monday for their week of fun and excitement with everyone heading out on Saturday.
The camp features a long list of activities for children including swimming canoeing, paddleboats and hot air balloon rides. There’s lots of camp games, arts and crafts throughout the week, a carnival night with inflatables and much more.
Applications for Camp Rainbow will be available online beginning February 22 which is the first day of the two-day Beaver 100.3 Camp Rainbow Radiothon fundraiser. Join air personalities from the Beaver as they share heartwarming stories with the kids and volunteers of Camp Rainbow.
