Childhood should be a magical time for everyone. Some children, however, need a little magic added to their lives from time to time. Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Clarksville, a United Way agency, offers mentoring programs supporting children in the community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for men and women who would like to volunteer to be a mentor and share some time with a special child, or anyone who has a child who can benefit from a mentor is welcome to be a part of BBBS as well.
Big Brothers and Sisters aren’t expected to be substitute parents or teachers. You don’t need experience, money or a degree. You simply need to be a friend who enjoys bringing a little magic into the life of a youngster.
Executive Director of BBBS, Chris Buerck, said the organization is looking ahead to the future.
“Moving forward the agency is in a growth pattern. Our goal is to be serving 100 kids by the end of the year,” Buerck said.
Buerck added that when you sign up to mentor with BBBS the organization mentors every step of the way with ideas for activities, how to handle issues that arise, and to help manage the bond that is created in the relationship.
One of the most popular fundraising events for BBBS is Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 12 at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center. Businesses, schools, civic organizations, and the community are invited to help raise money, and come out and join the fun.
