Comet 46P/Wirtanen, also known as the Christmas comet, will be visible to the naked eye this month.
Jane Houston Jones from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said the comet started to brighten last month but it will be easier to see in December. On December 16, 46P will be only 7.2 million miles from Earth, meaning it can be seen without the use of a telescope.
WKRN’s Danielle Breezy said the comet is special because it’s the brightest comet we have seen in the past 20 years. It is also the 10th closest comet to approach planet earth in modern times.
You can track the comet’s path on Twitter.
