Gertrude S. Davidson, age 93, of Nashville, TN, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Ms. Gertrude was born in 1921 to the late Sid V. Schmittou and Mattie Weakley Schmittou, in Slayden, TN.

She was preceded in death by first husband and father of her children, James Edward “Buster” Harper and second husband, Russell Davidson. She was also preceded in death by infant sisters, Mabel and Laura Mae Schmittou; sister, Jewell (Horace) Sugg; brother, Paul (Minnie) Schmittou; daughter, Patsy (Dick) Davis; and good friend, Lottie Suiter.

Ms. Gertrude lived her earlier years in Dickson County, TN and later lived in Clarksville, Hendersonville, and mostly recently in Nashville, TN.

A loving wife and mother, and a wonderful homemaker, she was an excellent Southern cook. She learned that art by watching her mother from the kitchen wood box at a very young age. She continued the love of cooking all her life, most recently watching Paula Deen’s shows on TV. She also enjoyed the country music classics. A member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. She liked listening to Charles Stanley and Joel Osteen.

Ms. Gertrude is survived by her children, Sidney (Kaye) Harper of Bradenton, FL; Mary (Bill) Wilson of Naples, FL; Robert (Brenda) Harper of Clarksville, TN; and Melanie J. Harper of Nashville, TN; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are appreciated, but in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Our Mama believed no one should ever go hungry.

A special thank you to her caregivers at St. Thomas Hospital Sixth Floor, her home care nurse Theresa Weaver, and Trevecca Health Care and Rehab.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21 at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 20, and from noon until the hour of service on Tuesday, July 21 at the funeral home.
