CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Clarksville Wildcats welcomed in the Germantown Red Devils to Hilda J. Richardson Field for round one of the playoffs. While Clarksville controlled the game early and held a lead going into the fourth quarter, 21 straight points for the Red Devils in the final minutes was the difference, and Germantown ended the Wildcat’s season with a 28-10 victory.
Early on, both teams couldn’t capitalize on opportunities. Tre’Von McGory’s 50 yard reception for Germantown got them into the red zone, but they were forced to kick a field goal, and missed. Then, Clarksville jumped on a muffed punt, leading to a 33 yard Jacob Wiggins field goal for the only points in the half. Clarksville headed to the locker room up 3-0.
In the second half, Germantown got things started with a 13 yard strike from Mekhi Robins to Jamin Bean into the endzone for their first touchdown of the game. Clarksville responded on the next drive with a 10 yard touchdown run from James Dalrymple. From there on, everything went the Red Devils way, with Cameron Ledlow catching a tipped ball off a receiver’s knee for a touchdown, linebacker Cody Balkin ripping the ball away and running it all the way back to the house, and Larry Johnson breaking free on a 50 yard rushing touchdown to seal the deal.

“It feels like we lost 100 coin flips in a row,” said Clarksville head coach Isaac Shelby. “You hate when when those moments come in such crucial times. It was tough on our guys, and I hate it for them.”
Germantown will move on to face Collierville next week. Football in Montgomery County is over, but Shelby said this team has nothing to hang their heads about.
“It’s the winningest senior class that’s ever come through here,” said Shelby. “There’s a lot of guys that might not have played immediately, but stuck through it, and turned out to be really good players. It’s a tough group, with a lot to be proud of.”
